Though street style looks were close to impossible to detect given festival chic on day one included rain boots and ponchos, we did snap some up close and personal shots of our favorite performer of the evening, Miss Erykah Badu. Badu graced the Skky Vodka tent with her band, The Cannabinoids, and gave the crowd a tasteful remix of some of her old classics and a few of her recent hits. Clad in a long dark trench coat and long golden-grayish locks tucked under a rounded top hat, she started the crowd off with a taste of New Amerykah Part One (4th World War). “Hip. Hop. Is bigger than re-li-gion. Hip. Hop. Is bigger than my n****. Hip-Hop,” she flowed with a big smile, sporting gold fronts to complete her look.
“This is my therapy right here. This is what I do for therapy,” she waxed on about the live performance before flowing into her final few tracks including New Amerykah Part Two hit “Window Seat.” Though the crowd didn’t want to see her go, Badu kissed the crowd goodbye as festival organizers swiftly announced that hers would be the last performance of the evening due to high winds and unsafe stage conditions.
