Trip To Bountiful Cicely Tyson

On Sunday night (June 9), Cicely Tyson won big at the Tony Awards with the Best Leading Actress for her role in Trip to Bountiful, beating out Laurie Metcalf, Amy Morton, Kristine Nielson and Holland Taylor.

After 30 years, the 88-year-old actress returned to Broadway this season to play Carrie Watts, an elderly widow nearing death who yearns to revisit her past home in Bountiful despite her son and daughter-in-laws wishes. She’s supported by Vanessa Williams, Condola Rashad and Cuba Gooding Jr. in Horton Foote’s theater revival.
