In an effort to appeal to tomboys everywhere, Nike’s newest spokesperson Brittney Griner will model men’s clothing for the sports brand. As the first openly gay person to enter an endorsement deal with Nike, Griner’s affection for bow ties and blazers is a plus for this historic partnership. “I used to do the whole baggy, hard-core, I’m-a-boy look,” she says. “Then I went through a preppy phase. Now I have the athletic, bow-tie look. I found my style.”
ESPN reports that the 6’8″ Phoenix Mercury player will also model Nike’s skateboarding brand SB and go after non-traditional endorsements with outside companies.
Since graduating from Baylor University this year, Griner has come out as a proud “strong black lesbian woman,” often speaking at awards shows and conferences about her experience as a closeted basketball player.
