While Skylar Diggins has received co-signs from rap stars Lil Wayne and Chris Brown, girls run her pre-game mix.
“Right now, I’m very mainstream. I love Rihanna, Beyoncé, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown,” she tells Vixen. “I love listening to music before the game.”
If one were to raid her iTunes, she says the most shocking surprise would be notes of jazz music. “People would be shocked that I listen to jazz music. It’s such a soothing style of music,” she says. “I recently got into playing the piano so maybe a little classical music to help me practice but I’m pretty much into any type of music..I love good songs.”
The Notre Dame native always gets major play. As the Fighting Irish’s all-time scoring leader, Diggins was chosen third overall at the WNBA draft in Connecticut Monday (Apr. 15) and boasts the most followers of any female college athlete.
“Twitter is so much fun for me,” she says. “I love talking to the fans, the kids and even some of the older fans who just watch it to see me play, even if they never watched basketball.”
One of the funniest messages she’s received? “You always get some tweets like, ‘Will you marry me?’ It’s just fun and just joking. At least I think (laughs) but I love communicating.”
Now the 5’9” brunette is eyeing the finals and the chance to get her head in the game.
“One of my goals is to make the playoffs and just really compete,” she says, confident that the veterans on the Tulsa Shock will give them a good shot. “Everybody’s goal is to win a world championship and I would love that opportunity to play for one.”
