Earlier when we announced that Jay-Z would produce the soundtrack for The Great Gatsby, music lovers assumed Beyoncé would be one of the featured artists. And they were right. Lo and behold, we finally have a lengthy snippet of her “Back to Black” collaboration with Andre 3000. The slowed down Amy Winehouse tune features both of the artists singing the melancholy lyrics over a rock-infused instrumental.
Critics are split over the darker version. While some think the new version does an injustice to the originator, others consider it a touching tribute. Winehouse’s father, Mitch, recently told Daily Mail that Beyoncé doesn’t bring anything to it, and money was the ultimate deal maker.
“They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing,” he says. “I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.”
Take a listen and ponder your own conclusions.
