Rumors have been swirling around that Lauryn Hill signed a new record deal to help pay off her tax debt. The ex-Fugee who is facing jail time spoke up about the deal, her financial situation, and her new label with Sony Music in a letter she penned to her fans.
“I have recently entered into an agreement with Sony Worldwide Entertainment, to launch a new label, on which my new music will be released. And yes, I am working on new music,” wrote the eight-time Grammy-winning singer.
While many reported her deal was worth $1 million, Lauryn refuted those reports in her letter. She also explained her current tax debt and meek financial position in the industry. According to reports, Lauryn owed $968,000 in back taxes but her lawyer is certain she will pay the amount before her sentencing on May 6.
