By now I’m sure you saw the Instagram photo of a bloody Kim Kardashian receiving a vampire facelift. The reality star underwent the procedure on a recent episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami and shared the results with her fans. But what exactly is it and it is something we should try?
“First of all, there is no such thing as a vampire facelift,” says Dr. Bruce Katz, Director of the Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Clinic at Mount Sinai Medical Center. “There is, however, a product that can be used which is mixed with your own blood as a platelet rich plasma to be injected into the skin to rejuvenate the skin and treat wrinkles.”
During the process the patient’s own blood is spun in a centrifuge and then re-injected into the soft tissue of the area needing restoration. Sounds gross, but there are positive results—apparently the stem cells produce growth factors that slow down the look of aging, and improve the volume and texture of the skin.
