Although the much-anticipated Annie remake just snagged a director (Friends With Benefits’ Will Gluck), it lost its leading lady. Twelve year old Willow Smith has officially outgrown the role, which went into pre-production when she was just nine. The remake marks Jay-Z‘s first foray into film with Marcy Media. He is also partnering with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith‘s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, to distribute the project.
“For Marcy Media’s first foray into film, we couldn’t ask for better partners and mentors than Overbrook Entertainment. We are excited to work with Will Gluck and Sony Pictures Entertainment. My well-known affinity for the classic ‘Hard Knock Life’ makes Annie a natural vehicle to lead us into the world of the cinema,” Jay-Z previously said in a statement.
With Willow out and a Fall 2014 release, who will fill her shoes? We nominate Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis!
