Earlier this month we predicted Quvenzhané Wallis will star in the upcoming Annie remake after Willow Smith stepped down, and we were spot on. Quvenzhané has been cast as Annie for the 2014 film set to be directed by Will Gluck (Friends With Benefits).
“With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star,” said Hannah Minghella, president of production for Columbia in a recent statement. “She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”
This evening Quvenzhané is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild, proving that 2013 is her year to shine.
The film is produced by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith through Overbrook Entertainment and by Jay- Z and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith through Marcy Media.
