Today, most 9-year-olds are sitting in a classroom learning how to improve their comprehensive skills, practice the basics of math or participating in class, but Quvenzhané Wallis is participating on the acting world’s main stage.

The 85th annual Academy Awards released the nominees for this year’s award show, listing Quvenzhané as the youngest nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The precocious star snatched the nominee for her role as Hushpuppy in Beasts of the Southern Wild which is up for four noms as well. A 6-year-old at the time of the movie’s release, Wallis garnered the title formerly held Keisha Castle-Hughes, the then 13-year-old star of Whale Rider.

Setting her eyes on another script, Quvenzhané will star in Twelve Years a Slave alongside Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti, and Michael Fassbender.

This little Louisianan woman deserves a standing ovation.
