Kerry Washington ended the year 2012 with a slew of magazine features and keeps the momentum going in 2013, joining a fleet of A-list actors for the W Magazine “Best Performances 2013″ editorial.
Taking a break from Olivia Pope’s style, Washington pulls her hair into a high ponytail and rocks a lace trenchcoat while posing in front of run-down door. Kerry also shares the emotional journey of filming Django Unchained. “I wouldn’t say I’m drawn to controversy, but I try not to let the fear of controversy get in the way of my decisions,” she tells the ‘zine. “I wasn’t sure I was the right person to play Broomhilda, a slave, in Django. The thing I learned most was the enormous strength it would take any human being to survive the circumstances of slavery, because I barely survived it for pretend. I kept telling Quentin [Tarantino], ‘I’m going to send you my extra therapy bills.’ I was up to twice a week on the phone with my shrink.”
Carmen Ejogo, who tackled the bad girl role in Sparkle, and pint-sized history maker Quvenzhané Wallis of Beasts of the Southern Wild were also in the spread. Check our their photos below.
