2012 is the year of Kerry Washington.
Her work as Scandal‘s Olivia Pope and Django Unchained‘s Broomhilda solidifies her as one of today’s best actresses. In addition to VIBE Magazine, she and co-star Jamie Foxx lend their star power to the 10th anniversary cover of LA Confidential. Showing off her model-esque looks in high fashion threads, Kerry dishes on the hardship of being black in Hollywood.
“My grandmother was a maid on Park Avenue and her grandmother was a slave. The expectations about what’s possible for African Americans is always shifting and always growing, but Jamie’s right: If you’re black in Hollywood, you have to be twice as good and work twice as hard as everybody else.”
She also comments on the chemistry with her two-time co-star, calling it “rare” and something that comes from “a whole lot of crying, a whole lot of sharing, a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears.”
To hear Kerry talk about her whirlwind year, tune into Oprah’s Next Chapter on Sunday, December 9th at 9pm. She along with Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes and Judy Smith (the woman Olivia Pope is based on) will chat about the overwhelming success of the ABC drama.–Nicole Brown
