Carried out in true Basketball Wives fashion, the VH1 reunion show did not disappoint when it came to sneaky jabs and slick responses. In fact, one response by BBWLA head Gloria Govan threw Twitter in an uproar.
Govan, now Mrs. Matt Barnes, faced a firing squad led by unofficial cast member Bambi about everything from her involvement with rapper The Game to her decrease in screen time this season. Gloria slyly responded to Bambi, “If it weren’t for me, Basketball Wives LA wouldn’t exist.”
The sly comment more than set off BBW franchise executive producer Shaunie O’Neal and fellow Basketball Wives Miami cast member Evelyn Lozada. Lozada immediately took to Twitter to dispute Gloria’s claims by saying, ““I just need to make something CLEAR! It is because of @ShaunieONeal creating BBW Miami, Shed Media & @VH1 that there is a “SPIN-OFF” #CarryOn.”
In an interview with Necole Bitchie, Gloria aired out her frustrations about her negative portrayal on the show, to which she blames falling out of favor with the producers. “That’s why I’m a prime example of why you don’t get on the producers’ bad side because they took this one little thing and just gave her a platform, just because your mad at me don’t try to water down my name.”
The Basketball Wives star also dimisses Evelyn’s criticism of her statement. “Evelyn out of all people should understand how spinoff’s work…
Evelyn, like girl you of all people need to stop talking, I don’t know if that headbutt got you all delusional or what but she knows what’s up.”
Even though Gloria’s involvement with the BW franchise has brought her fame, the mother of two has decided not to participate in the show for future seasons.
“I think at this point I want to kind of branch out in terms of what I want to be doing next season and I don’t agree with the direction the show is going… I just feel like the direction of the show is becoming more of a Bad Girls Club, then it is a Basketball Wives show.”
