VIBE is deeply saddened to report about a horrific school shooting that took place this morning

According to reports, a gunman opened fire at an elementary school in Newtown, CT this morning (Dec. 14), leaving 27 people, including 18 children dead. The shooter, an unidentified male, was confirmed as dead.

The first 911 calls were received by police at around 9:40 a.m., stating that students were possibly trapped in a classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School with an armed man. Police immediately rushed a SWAT team to the scene, evacuating the students to a nearby firehouse as they walked hand-in-hand through shattered glass. Police recovered two weapons: a Glock and Sig Sauer.

The city’s local schools have been locked down for the remainder of the school day. The FBI and local police remain on the scene.
