Author and cultural activist Yoko Ono is redefining what it means to be a 79-year-old woman. Dubbed “Fashions for Men: 1969-2012” Yoko created a new clothing line in association with Opening Ceremony after meeting co-founder Umberto Leon. Known for their unique styles and trends, Leon gravitated towards Yoko’s ideas and will carry the line in New York City, Tokyo, Los Angeles and London.
The inspiration for the pieces is taken from sketches and drawings Yoko gifted to her late husband, John Lennon on their wedding anniversary in 1969. “I was inspired to create ‘Fashions for Men,’ [after being] amazed at how my man was looking so great,” Yoko said in reference to the 1969 sketches. “I felt it was a pity if we could not make clothes emphasizing his very sexy bod.” ABC News reports that the newly hailed fashion designer created the “limited–edition fashion line” out of love for Lennon’s body.
