Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas went completely gold medal glam for the December 2012 issue of Essence. The girl on fire has been named one of Essence‘s Women of the Year along with Michelle Obama and Robin Roberts. Wearing a black-and-gold minidress by Marchesa, Gabby shows the world that she can rock high-end labels just as she does her Olympics achievements.
The 16-year-old wowed the planet during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London when she became the first American to ever take the gold in both the individual all-around and team events, as well as the first African American gymnast to win the individual all-around gold. In the cover story titled “Gabby Takes Flight,” the Vixen discusses how her life has changed post-Olympics success. From befriending the FLOTUS to landing a beauty campaign with OPI, Gabby gushes: “In my dreams I didn’t think about how many shows I would be on and how many people would tweet me…it’s so cool!”
