Women are taking great strides in the world today, especially with those newly elected into the Senate this past Tuesday. But now we travel across the Atlantic to Africa where women of all different shades are creating waves in their professional fields and communities.
In celebration of the “African Women’s Decade,” christened by The African Union, ARISE magazine compiled a list of 100 Dynamic Women in recognition of those who strive in their areas of expertise and continue to promote the new face of Africa to the global community.
The list expands positions in business, culture, science, politics and fashion. Even though there are a few familiar names recognized such as Iman, Thandie Newton and Sophie Okonedo, it is refreshing to see women of color in areas of science and technology like Google Policy Manager for Africa Ory Okolloh and space scientist and BBC presenter Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
The list also celebrates those who are not from the continent but still assist in “shaping modern Africa today,” such as Angelina Jolie and Vogue Italia Editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani.
Check out the list here and lets give a round of applause to these dynamic women.
