American Apparel Receives Backlash for ‘Sandy Sale’

Posted by on Nov 1, 2012

American Apparel Sandy SaleNever one to shy away from controversy, U.S. fashion brand American Apparel emailed residents of the nine states affected by Hurricane Sandy with a “Sandy Sale” discount. The promo informed customers that they could shop and get a 20% discount by using the promo code SANDYSALE, “in case they were bored during the storm.”

While the company claims it was all in good intentions, (their stores were closed, so they’re trying to make up for lost revenue) many found it insulting. Many residents were without power and were forced to evacuate. The last thing on anyone’s mind was a discount on an overpriced shirt.

Thankfully, there are considerate outlets willing to assist in the aftermath of Sandy.

NBC is planning a benefit for Sandy victims with performances by Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera and more to be announced. The Benefit will air tomorrow night at 8 p.m. on NBC and NBC Universal channels. All donations are going to the Red Cross for victims.–Desire Thompson
