Solange‘s fashion evolution from plain jane Texan girl to sharp and cutting edge fashionista is hard to deny. The “Losing You” singer has managed to step from behind her famous sister’s shadow to create a style that’s now a fixture at the front row of Fashion Week, on the runway, at events and on the go.
In just a few years, the singer/mom/DJ has managed to land a clothing campaign with Madewell, walk in shows for designers as esteemed as Alberto Ferretti and become the face of Rimmel London.
It’s assumed that Solange would naturally progress to the role of fashion designer; however, she is quick to shut that idea down. “Honestly, I would never do anything like that—there’s so many talented designers that have such a massive skill and have been working on it for so long,” Solange told The Cut.
While we admire her for letting the “real” designers do the work, we can’t help but imagine how amazing a collection from Solange would be. Imagine all of the colors, prints and offbeat styles she would create! Lucky for us, there’s still hope for a collaboration with a clothing brand.
“Kenzo, J. Crew are all my peeps. To work with friends is how I’ve structured my life,” she said. “I’ve been approached a few times. It’s really a matter of the timing being right. There’s obviously a lot on my plate now, and my son is a high priority on my list.”–Nicole Brown
