Any endorsement for President Barack Obama‘s re-election is reason for celebration, even if it’s stated a bit peculiar, which recently happened courtesy of Madonna and her routine concert diatribes or provocative speeches.
During her latest MDNA tour stop in Washington, D.C., Madge proceeded to give her fans a sped-up history lesson, stretching from Abe Lincoln to Dr. Martin Luther King to Obama. When she specifically spoke of Obama, the Queen of Pop had this to say: “Y’all better vote for f**king Obama, OK? For better or worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing sh*t. It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, goddamnit.”
The majority of fans cheered exuberantly even as Madge seemed a bit hazed. Her tour, all year, has been met with (of course) controversy at almost every stop, with Lady Gaga jabs and scenes of her wailing a gun in the air. While Madonna has always supported Obama for the same checklist of pros even before he was elected Commander-in-Chief back in 2008 (he’s black; includes the gay community), her comments are still of some kind of importance during a returning intense political season.
Every Madonna vote for #TeamObama is great. She concluded that “[I] realize how lucky I am to be living here in America. It doesn’t mean this is a perfect country. We have a long way to go”.–Carmen Shardae Jobson
