She took a break to get married, have a beautiful son and live a little, but Alicia Keys is ready to step back into the limelight with new album Girl On Fire.
In a sit down with New York Times, Alicia describes the organic and inspired process of creating the title track with Jeff Bhasker and Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse). “It came from this interview I did. I was reading it and she said something like, ‘She’s a girl on fire,’ and I was like ‘Huh, I love that!’”
She continues, “Somehow we start tossing around these ideas and thoughts and these different sounds come out…eventually we came to the chords that are ‘Girl on Fire.’ I don’t know what happened, but it was just like an explosion of magic fairy dust that came down and that’s what basically happens with songs sometimes, but it’s very rare.”
We got to see her perform it live on this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, but check out her small acoustic performance with NYT below. Her latest project hits stores on November 27.–Nicole Brown
