R&B Diva Stephanie Mills to Form Mary J Blige, Anita Baker and Chaka Khan Supergroup?

Grammy Award-winning vocalist Stephanie Mills is making her way back into the spotlight equipped with a new album, several shows and an upcoming children’s book titled Little Joseph.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, the Brooklyn-bred songstress discusses the struggle singers trying to adapt to today’s musical climate, her favorite rapper and the three other powerhouse divas she’d form a super group with.

A seasoned veteran in the industry, Mills feels that the older generation of artists are desperate for acceptance. “I just don’t think you have to go that far to get attention. And I think sometimes the older artists are so starved for attention that they’ll just about do anything,” Mills said after being asked about her thoughts on Brian McKnight’s recent sexy turn in music.

The “Never Knew Love Like This Before” singer also cited Erykah Badu‘s controversial video for “First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” as a bad look for black artists. “I think sometimes they want to do the shock value thing, but I don’t think it always works for black artists the way that it works for white artists,” she said.

When it comes to the newer crop of entertainers, she admits to rocking out to Jay-Z, Nas and Ludacris, but the one rapper she’d want to work with? “I would love to do a collaboration with Lil’ Wayne,” Mills revealed. “I would have loved to sing on his song, ‘How To Love.’ I wanted to do the remix to that song really bad.”

As for forming her own super-group, Mill turns to a select few. “It would be me, Chaka [Khan], Anita [Baker] and Mary [J Blige]. I think that our voices would lend to each other — we’re different. And it would be fun,” she said.

“I always imagined in my head that we would sing a Destiny’s Child song, “Girl.” And I’m a fan of Chaka’s and a fan of Anita’s and a fan of Mary’s. We get along, we like each other and I think we could really do something cute together.”

Only time can tell if such an elite girl group would ever come to fruition but for now, she’s focused on her own projects. “I would hope at least by the fall that I should have something new out, hopefully.
