Adidas Cancels Offensive Sneakers by Jeremy Scott

Posted by on Jun 19, 2012

Jeremy Scott will have to stow away a pair of ankle-cuff Adidas kicks due to their resemblance to slavery shackles, the shoe company announced yesterday. The JS Roundhouse mid was set to release in August; however, an early photo of the design has critics up in arms, especially Blacks who are spewing that they are insensitive and offensive.

In a statement, the sneaker titan says that the footwear “is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery.”

Believe it or not, Scott’s design was inspired by My Pet Monster. He says, “My work has always been inspired by cartoons, toys & my childhood.”

The LA-based designer’s affair with Adidas has been well-received, with his kicks being spotted on the feet of Amber Rose, Nicki Minaj and Blue Ivy. Can he come back from this hiccup?
