Remedy: According to the Economic Policy Institute, mandatory overtime is when an employer “makes compulsory with the threat of job loss or the threat of demotion or assignment to unattractive tasks or work shifts.” Though many employees are taking on overtime without the boss’ demands, this should never be the case, especially as a well-paid staffer. Overtime already has heavy repercussions on not just the worker’s wellbeing but their families as well.
