Shaunie O’Neal and Jumping The Broom producer Tracey Edmonds have snagged a look from Fox Searchlight on their b-ball idea. According to Variety, the feature film–loosely based on the lives of O’Neal and her all-star friends–will spotlight a young woman who follows her basketball player beau to Miami after he’s drafted to the NBA.
Edmonds shares her excitement: “The beauty of a feature film is that we’ll have the ability to dig much deeper into the stories and characters that come from this very colorful world and create a very juicy, action-packed narrative.”
While Edmonds and O’Neal could potentially cash in big with this silver screen spot, the reactions have been polarized. On one end, you can have a story that mirrors The Game, a cute rom-com that reminds you of Melanie and Derwin minus the football. But on the other side of this spectrum, one could find themselves watching a two-hour long rendition of Basketball Wives. However, the most positive note is that Black women are gaining more and more opportunities to be boss Vixens!
Ladies, what do you think? Would you hit theaters to see this film?
