Rick Santorum Suspends Campaign—Are You Ready for Romney vs. Obama?

From Clutch–After much speculation, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has decided to call it quits. In a speech Tuesday afternoon in Gettysburg, PA., Santorum told reporters he would be suspending his campaign, thanking his supporters for their dedication, and extolling what his campaign was all about.

During the speech Santorum listed his accomplishments—winning 11 states and spreading his message “far and wide”—and perhaps setting himself up for a possible run in 2016.

Santorum’s exit from the presidential race comes amid pressure from establishment Republicans for the former Senator to step aside and allow front-runner Mitt Romney to assume the nomination.

Over the past week, Romney has garnered the support of rank-and-file Republicans like Pres. George H.W. Bush, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, and Congressman Paul Ryan, and many felt that Santorum’s insistence to stay in the race would ultimately hurt Romney’s chances in the fall.
