The mother of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, wants to trademark the sayings, “I Am Trayvon” and “Justice For Trayvon,” according to Newsone.
The applications were filed last week with the U.S. Patent and Trademark offices. Fulton’s attorney told the Associated Press that Fulton wanted to trademark the sayings in order to protect intellectual property rights for use in projects to help other families in similar situations.
These sayings have become the battle cry by those enraged by the killing of the 17-year-old by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman on Feb 26. Zimmerman continues to claim self defense while Martin’s family believes racial profiling was the reason for the killing.
