Bad girls are winning, and I’m beginning to believe they have been for some time now
America’s fave English darling Adele flipped the bird to producers of the Brit Awards for cueing the music while she sped through her Album of the Year award “thank you’s.” Some fans are puzzled by the gesture thinking, How could the universal “f*ck you” fly from the fingers of such a “good girl”? Well, it’s the age of the bad girl, that’s why.
“I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but the suits offended me.”
The soulful star’s recent comments about sex even landed in blogosphere’s headlines. What? Are good girls not supposed to have sex?
Adele’s aves-inspired ode comes weeks after M.I.A. sent her own bird flying during Super Bowl 46 halftime show, an action that caused stuffed-up suits to choke and stumble over countless apologies. You can rest assured that many weren’t surprised that the statement-making “Bad Girls” rapper chose the offensive flip on a national platform. Her political mocking is consistent and well-executed. Why not do something crazy while the world is watching, right?
Also in another state of non-amazement, classic bad gyal Rihanna still reigns, even after recently collaborating with ex-abuser Chris Brown on two remixes. It seems that naughty and not-so-acceptable behavior is in among the ladies this year. A lot of the leading Vixens, including Nicki Minaj, are caring less about class, couth and sophistication and more about getting their edgy (and sometimes raw) point across in the most striking way… Even if it’s just a simple comment to the higher-ups.
Move over, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, there’s a new breed in town on a mission to get their shine. Like the great M.I.A. sang, “Bad girls do it well…”
