DO BRING REFERENCE PHOTOS
This is important. If you want your braids a certain size or length, it’s much easier to SHOW your braider the look you’re going for than to TELL her. And trust me, you don’t want to be sitting in that chair for 6-plus hours, paying your hard-earned money to be stuck with braids you hate.
DON’T BRAID HAIR TOO TIGHTLY AT THE HAIRLINE
No shade, but you don’t want your hairline to end up looking like Naomi Campbell’s. Protect your edges! Politely let your braider know to ease up when she gets close to the hair at your temples and nape.
DON’T OVERDO IT
Extensions are heavy, and if your hair is weak and thin to begin with, you may want to reconsider those thick, knee-length box braids. Try braiding smaller, shorter sections so as not to add unnecessary stress to your follicles which can lead to alopecia and pattern baldness. NOT cute!
