Tell me about the concept and focus behind the Autumn and “5″ collections. They are my absolute favorites!!!
Cherise: For the Autumn collection, we were really inspired with the idea of this woodland fairy. We wanted to explore her as she goes to a dense forest. The colors you see us explore are the chocolate and earthy tones indicative of the season. I think the line has this certain level of sensuality and play. “5″ is a very interesting collection because we were inspired by sculpture work as well as the sand dunes. What you see in this collection is a wonderful blending of romanticism. We were just really interested in celebrating the female form and really being inspired by the sculpture work of Andy Goldsworthy.
Sheanan: “5″ is ultimately my favorite. In terms of pieces, if I had to pick, Breathing to me is my favorite… and Mystics.
What kind of woman does Adha Zelma represent?
Cherise: Adha Zelma is a free spirit. She does what she wants and makes no qualms about it. Lives life with no regret!
Sheanan: She’s a risk taker. Not afraid of attention. I often joke with Cherise that I go through life like a bull in China shop, a free spirit not caring what happens or if it’s going to work or not work. She’s sensual but sensual at the same time. She loves to be gazed upon.
What would you want your legacy in this industry to be? What do you want people to remember about Adha Zelma?
Cherise: At the end of the day, we would want to be recognized for artistic work that really challenges the way we look at things. We would want to be remembered for the respect that we put into the materials we work with. In so many ways, I want to be known for empowering women the way that our work empowers women.
Sheanan: The way we make them feel sexy and that much more fearless. I’d have to say, lastly, not being afraid of anything. Life is what you make it.
Fall in love with their work, too — Adha Zelma.
