This past weekend, Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons came together for one night to honor three celebrities at their 12th Annual Art for Life benefit. The dinner gala, which was held on Saturday (July 30) night, exists to raise money for inner-city children.
This year, the duo paid tribute to the Queen of Hip-Hop and Soul, Mary J. Blige, actor Ed Norton, and fashion icon, Tamara Mellon for their work with the organization.
“When you don’t invest in the inventors of tomorrow, the economist of tomorrow, the doctors of tomorrow won’t emerge because you haven’t taught people to think in their individual creative ways. Creativity fuels everything that makes America dynamic,” Ed Norton stated in appreciation for the prestigious honor.
Guests at the event, which was held at Russell’s East Hampton mansion, were invited to bid on items, ranging from artwork to a meet and great with Justin Timberlake. Later in the evening, they were entertained by Oscar-award winning singer, Jennifer Hudson, who performed three of her hit songs.
Russell and Kimora, who have been divorced for two years now, do not let their separation limit their commitment to the charity:
“We started this together 12 years ago. I hosted it every year forever and then I had to turn over the duties, and now we are back as a family and we are so excited. It is a great night,” Kimora said of the benefit’s importance.
