Amy Winehouse had a lot more love to give before her tragic passing on July 23rd. According to sources, the critically-acclaimed singer was actually a mommy-to-be amidst plans to adopt a little girl from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.
From Us Magazine: “’Amy was already my mother,’ Dannika Augustine, 10, told British paper ‘The Daily Mirror.’ Winehouse met little Dannika during a 2009 trip to St. Lucia, and strived to rescue her from a life of poverty.
‘I would call her Mum,’ Dannika said, ‘And she would call me her daughter. She took care of me, and we had fun together. I loved her, and she loved me.’”
And while one may think the little girl’s family would have been concerned about the adoption, they were actually in full support. Dannika’s grandmother warmly recalls her and Amy’s instant bond, saying that the two were “inseparable” from the moment they met.
On the flip side, Dannika’s parents are truly grateful for the role Amy played in their daughter’s life. “I thanked Amy for taking care of my daughter, and she said, ‘Dannika is taking care of me. I couldn’t live without her,” Div Augustine relayed. “I knew [Winehouse] could give my daughter a wonderful life.”
