another mindless crap about nothing................if you have a personal problem with headscarves I suggest you keep it to yourself.....muslim women and jewish women wear scarves,so whats your point? Scarves are only wearable as a head dress when Jennifer Lopex or Salma Hayek wear it or when some talentless hack on a useless magazine says its ok to do so? (yes there are pictures of both women on the internet with a headscarf).

Other races also see black women who wear weaves as unclean (you women clean that take that nasty thing off your head every 2-4 weeks) that to me is nastier or unsightlier than wearing a headscarf. You can take the scarf off to wash your hair, but can you do the same with those nasty weaves you clueless women wear?

A scarf is a beautiful accessory when worn properly and the wearer isn't afraid of what other people will think about her wearing one. Check here for inspiration. http://bit.ly/o4zCH1

I think that the "head scarf in question is being used as an adaption of the turban head wrap (African inspired) now trending with the African print, fashion, etc in style and is not being used as a head scarf per se : ).
When Kim K or another celebrity wears it on the red carpet; as usual we'll say how cool as though we had nothing to do with it and wear it as copy cats instead of owners......so folks what's new about that lol

I have worn my headscarf out and in public when I was in college. I wore it to class, people saw me and no one seemed to mind. At first I was nervous wearing it all the time, because no other black girl at my school (that I saw) did. But eventually I got over it. It was a really nice headscarf, and I don't see what the big deal is, wearing it out in public.

In regards to being judged: people will always judge you. It's people projecting their own standards onto you; and why would you want to live in constant fear or worry about how other people (different race or not) will perceive your headscarf? I mean, it's a HEADSCARF. It seems so irrational to me to be so afraid to wear something so completely innocent in front of other people. It's your body, your hair - who cares what other people think about what you do with it?

A Head wrap is a cultural statement, a head scarf is a personal statement. I will not judge another man or woman regarding their personal habits. Personally I will do a head wrap anytime, anywhere, anyplace I chose. I would however reserve my head scarf for the home front.

Trudy and Kay, I will agree with you.
On a personal note, my air went out in my car and Memphis is hot as satan's toenails right about now. So on my way to work I kept my hair wrapped with the head scarf on because I had to roll my windows down, and I did not want the hot dry air and my sweat to frizz it up. I did keep my shades on and pray that noone saw me. I also combed my hair out before hitting the lot. So we never know what someone's situation is and therefore should stop judging. Maybe the girl has to go one more day before making it to the shop or something. :)

WOW - I do not know what you're experiences are, but I've never had people of other races respond to my head-scarf wearing as ghetto - they seem to love it and express some appreciation for something different. It's not a big deal to me. No offence but I wish you didn't have nothing else to write about.

At first I was like 'why is this even a story?' But ok the rule of thumb is to avoid wearing the head scarf out. So when I see u properly dressed
but with the head scarf, then I'm like why didn't she just finish it off and do her hair? When you're in shorts n slippers I understand that you just came to the store right quick, going home. Raggedy is raggedy, headscarf or not. Some 'urban' styles are best kept under wraps, pun intended. Its the overall look and context that make it a do or a don't.
